Who Wrote the Bible
Q. Did more then one person write the Bible?
Q. Who Is the Author of the Bible?
This page is less who “penned” the Bible
and more who “Authored” the Bible. Almost all the books of the Bible have established
human authorship. A few like
Hebrews and Mark, different scholars like to debate (my vote is for Paul on
Hebrews, hands down. Mark was penned by Mark, but may have been dictated by
Peter). More important with some books is the time they were written.
Books, like Daniel and Relations, have a few debating the time.
Some denominations try to put a early writing to Revelations because they wish the destruction of the Temple to be the focal point of much of their prophesy. They don’t have a leg to stand on. John wrote Revelations after the fall of the Temple. The reason some wrongly twist the time is so they can replace Israel with the Church and/or claim to be in the millennium (Rev. 20:1-7). But Revelations was written post destruction. With Daniel it’s the opposite. They try to claim it was written much later then the accepted time. The reason for this is Daniel is so dead on accurate. This is a willful belief that it can’t be true because they just don’t believe in prophesy. They are right in one area, it is dead on accurate. I have tried to debunk it myself (I’m always trying to look at both sides) but I couldn't, Daniel was written before any of the events he foretold, in the 6th century B.C. (best date 537 B.C.). Sorry to the non-believers, you’ll have to live with it. What I’m answering here is who was the main “Author”, and that is God the Holy Spirit. All books were inspired. What do we mean by that? First “inspired” isn’t some vague idea coming into the mind, not vague concepts, or vague feelings. If you read the Bible, it is very specific. At the same time inspired isn’t possessed either. God didn’t take the people over , God doesn’t do channeling, or spirit writing. Inspired was knowledge given to the writers of the Bible that they put into their own words. God many times took a persons training and skills into consideration and found the best fit for what He wished to communicate at that time. Paul is a good example. Highly trained in the law and old testament, great heart for God, and a perfect fit to tie the law and prophets to the new age of grace. Not all the writers were willing percipients at first either. Moses didn’t wish to speak for God, Jonah tried to run from God, and Paul worked out great after Jesus had a talk with him, about a nasty little habit he had of getting Christians stoned to death. Most of the writers were very simple people, not highly trained or educated. But God likes to use the everyday person to perplex the ones who feel they are wise. Like I said the writers personality came out in the writing, but the author is God. Lets say you wanted to write a novel. The first chapter you wrote in pen, the next... pencil, the next... a quill. Every chapter you just kept switching writing instruments. Crayons, fountain pens, spray cans, markers, typewriters, etc.. Wouldn’t each chapter look different and have a different feel? That’s all God has done with the writers of the Bible. God is the author who used a number of different writing instruments. I myself am not much of a writer (as if you couldn’t tell), I do like to paint and draw however. I can take the same subject matter and attempt to reproduce a rendering of the composition. Depending on what I use to create the image will in some ways influence the viewers perception of the piece. That’s all God did with the writers. Same artist just different instruments, each instrument gives a feel to the subject matter that is unique. They were high quality instruments, and they were in a Masters hand. The subject matter covers 6000 years, the tonal qualities cover the whole spectrum, from deep dark hues to brilliant whites. Each instrument had a pure unique style, but the complete work is, as they say in art, a mixed median. The Bible is a completed portrait of Gods love for man kind, a detailed rendering of Gods plan of salvation. I stress it is a completed portrait, adding anything to it is just graffiti. Don’t let any one tell you they can improve it. You wouldn’t add to a Rembrandt, or to Michael Angelo works, don’t attempt to improve Gods either. He has laid his tools down and His work has been framed. The story has been completed and published. One Artist, one Author, and He is God. If the story doesn’t inspire, or the painting doesn’t make sense, you may not be saved. In that case my I invite you to get to know the Author and Artist.
