Who is Jesus? Q. Is Jesus God? Q. Was Jesus a man? Q. Is it important for me to believe this or can I hold off
in making a decision?
One of the most important questions you will have to answer
is, “Who is/was Jesus”. How you answer this will help determine if you are saved.
Salvation comes by Faith, and faith comes by the Word of God. The Word of God,
for your understanding, tells you who Jesus is. Without this understanding you
will have a hard time having faith, or knowing "Who" and what to put this faith
into. Without Faith in the correct "Who and what", you can’t have Salvation. If you never have read a Bible, can you have faith
in the right "Who and what"? Yes. The Word is written in
the Bible but can also be spoken. It's the Word that saves, not if it's spoken
or written. Written or spoken it’s still the Word. This
can be as easy as hearing that “Jesus is the Son of God who died for your sins,
that if you have faith in Him, and His sacrifice, you can be washed of your
sins. Made clean before God by His blood. I come to you Jesus and ask for Your
gift of Salvation, and I have faith in You and Your sacrifice to save me". If
God has given you a clear understanding of whom Jesus is, you will be saved. Not
for a while, not if you live a certain life style or follow certain rules. But
forever no matter what you do. But do you have a clear understanding?
God tells us who his Son is, in the Bible. If you truly try to find out who He is, you will. Not by your reading or hearing, but by Gods revealing. Many people have read the words of the Bible and can repeat them back like a parrot. Will this save them? Not if they aren’t trying to find Him, or know who He is. Many people try to get saved for different (and wrong) reasons. Some because it’s expected of them, some just in case those nutty Christians are right. Some will try to be saved because they think it will make life easier, give them more money, relive guilt, or to cover sins from a life they really don’t intend to change. I have heard of Pastors that preached for years and never were saved. They thought they were. They could repeat the verses that told them who Jesus is, and what He did for mankind, but just never believed and/or had faith in them. Faith itself is a gift of God. The truth of who He is, also a gift. This is needed for the gift of Salvation. Understanding, Faith, and Salvation all are gifts that are for the taking. No cost, work, or deeds needed. Who Jesus is should be answered before even trying for Salvation, if not for anything else, just for your piece of mind. The great thing is God wants you to know who He is. Jesus asked Peter who the people said He was, and then after asked Peter who he thought He was. Peter told Him that He was the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus told him that he was blessed, for this knowledge didn’t come from him, but by God the Father. We can also have this knowledge but by Gods written word. Can God give you this knowledge without reading the Bible, yes He can. But if you’re like most people, you have a Bible gathering dust on a shelf. If His word is sitting right there, why should He need to supernaturally implant it in your mind. Pick it up and read, the Gospel of John will be a good start. If you really want to know who Jesus is, you’ll find out, God will see to it. So once you have learned these truths, then, you can have faith in them, and Jesus, to be saved. Today a lot of people believe in a false Jesus. This Jesus appeals to a human side for one reason or another. Sometimes knowing the fake can make it easier to spot the truth. This is what Jesus is not. Jesus is not Allah, Mohamed, Krishna, any other “god”. And he most certainly is not the brother of satan. Jesus doesn’t need to be told by a mother what people want, and he isn’t one of many gods under different names. He isn’t the Archangel Michael, or “just” a great man, teacher or prophet. The real Jesus doesn’t do parlor tricks, he doesn’t make statures or paintings cry, bleed, or faces appear on windows, walls, or grilled cheese sandwiches. And the real Jesus isn’t a spaceman, and he isn’t coming back in a ship to get his people. Jesus isn’t “the force”, a woman, a lit candle, or a necklace. Jesus isn’t in a cold marble stature or a Dutch masters painting, delegated to some corner of a musty museum. Jesus isn’t some cold unfeeling god that started the universe up and walked away, and He most certainly isn’t dead. Sorry to hear about your god but mine is alive and doing well, right here on planet earth (and heaven too). One writer (Josh McDonald) said there are three choices. He’s either a lair, crazy, or God. I’ll tell you now that Jesus isn’t a lair or crazy. If you think He is, then there’s no use in believing in, or living by anything He said. Some refer to Him as just a great teacher or prophet. Jesus claimed to be God. If He isn’t God, then to claim it means he’s either crazy, or telling one whopper of a lie. As the writer said you “need to make a choice”. If that choice is God, then it’s best to learn more about Him. Who is the real Jesus? Look to what God has written, and only to what God has written. Jesus "is" truth, he can't tell a lie. Pontus Pilate asked "what is truth"? If he only knew who was standing in front of him. Just proof that the average man doesn't know "truth" when it's staring them in the face. Jesus is the Alfa and Omega (this the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, here it means the beginning and the end, and the Word Himself). In the Gospel of John the Holy Spirit writes. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” (John1:1-2) Also “And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” (John 1:14). (If you read the Word you will know it, and then can have faith in it). He who always was and always will be. The First and the Last. The one who created everything, and for whom everything was created, is the Jesus to have faith in. Jesus is one of the Trinity, the Son of God, and God Himself. This Jesus was born of a virgin. He was born to us a child, but given as a Son. He was all God, and all Man, at the same time. Because He was all man He knew hunger, fatigue, thirst, cold, pain, sadness, grief, joy, laughter, friendship, disappointment, discouragement, anger, frustration and had temptation presented to Him. He was temped but didn’t succumb. He denied all his Godly powers for His benefit, yet used them for the benefit of the people who would kill Him. He is sinless, Holy, Divine, all powerful, all knowing, and is everywhere at the same time. He walked on water, told the future, and raised the dead. He fed thousands with just a few loafs of bread and a few fish. He is the “I am”, the one who can forgive sins and is the light of the world. He is the one the prophets foretold, the only one who did, and could fulfill, the prophet’s words. He is the Christ/Messiah (both words mean “anointed one”, and no, "Christ" isn't his last name, it’s a title). He is the one whose return is at any moment, that will call up the dead, and will judge the world. And most importantly for us. This is the Jesus who died, was dead and buried and on the third day left the grave, and now sits at the right hand of his Father. This death was to cover the sins of all people who ever were, and ever will be, if they have faith in Him and this payment. This Jesus paid in full the cost of our sins. On the cross the last words he said was “It is finished” (John 19:30). The word "finished" here is from the Greek word “tel-eh'-o”. "Tel-eh'-o" was a word used for accounting; it is where we get the word "tally", as in to tally up a bill. The word was used in paying or discharging a debt. Jesus literally said “It is paid for”. What he paid for was our lives, by paying for our sins. This Jesus didn’t owe anything, but paid for everything. He bought us out of sin and he owns us. Because He owns us, nothing and no one can take us from Him. Once you’re His, you are His forever. To become His just accept the gift of Salvation. He allowed men to lead Him to this death like a lamb brought to a sacrifice, because He was the sacrifice. Only this Jesus can offer Salvation by His death, as a gift to anyone who will receive it. You receive this gift by putting your faith in Him. Him being the real Jesus, that paid for the sins of the world with His own blood. If you haven’t noticed, as you move around this web site you will see “knowing Jesus” is a recurring theme. If you don’t know it by now, you will. I feel this is a very important part of life, as a Christian. To be saved you must receive the gift by faith in the sacrifice and shed blood of Jesus. A false Jesus can only offer a false gift. We are getting close to the end and Jesus said many would come in his name; there would be many false Christ’s. We are instructed to not be deceived. What is the down side of taking the time to know Jesus better? Can we know too much about God? I don’t think we can. Most people can tell you more about their favorite film, music, or sports star then they can about Jesus. Those stars may be great by human standards but knowledge of them very seldom improves your life. Knowledge of Jesus can help save yours. Read the Gospels, John is a good start, but the others will do just as fine. Gospel means “Good News”. The good news is that we can be saved, and that Jesus paid (Tel-eh'-o) for our sins. That he is the only way. That he is “The Way, The Truth, and The Life”.
To wrap this up.
